When the Gorge calls, sailors answer. Pacific Northwest, here we come! An extended Labor Day weekend of August 29th through September 2nd brought Weta sailors from North Carolina and Washington State together for the ultimate challenge to conquer their fears of the unknown at Cascade Locks, Oregon.

After I caught my breath and climbed on top of the bottom of my capsized boat, Puppy Dawg, in the middle of the Port Mansfield Channel, I reflected briefly on the day and how I ended up in this situation.

Four Wetas arrived at Yarra Bay Sailing Club overlooking Botany Bay, the container terminal and the flightpath to Sydney airport. So while it may not be the most attractive location, the water is clean and clear and the breakwater provides a great flat water sailing area.

Saturday had a fresh and gusty Westerlies which made for a good ride on the long race to Inskip point and return (13 miles). Peter Hackett in his new Foam Core boat and Glen cleared out and the rest of us swapped the lead back and forth.
